In the name of “development”, Brazilian politicians allow for agro — and timber industries to invade land which has been guaranteed to Amerindians by the 1988 Constitution. Violence against Amerindians is permanent and the killings, while officially recorded, remain under-evaluated. These genocidal policies are linked to the persistence of a colonial paradigm which has made territorial expansion a condition to growth.
