The high-speed societies we live in are characterized by a disconnection between competing rhythms. Fast capitalism conflicts with the necessarily slower tempo of deliberative democracy. The financial collapse of 2008 has shown how the high-speed processes of the automatized economy transcend the human capacities of traders and bankers. As an effect of this kind of flash crash, the executive power is dangerously strengthened.
