The institution of “authentication” is the fifth of the “five criteria” which were adopted by professional associations to define a psychotherapist... until the Law L2004-806 ! That “fifth criteria” would be the criteria to guaranty the four others. However, in reality, no guaranty is possible since there is no way to prevent a dangerous psychotherapist from harming his clients. If he or she is a member of an association, s/he could possibly be excluded from that association, by demonstrating that s/he no longer fulfils the conditions of membership. But the association would itself risk being charged damages and be liable for prejudice. Let us hope that the legal system evolves.
