Novelist and translator Ella Kagan (1896-1970), known as Elsa Triolet, helped found the National Writers' Committee during the Occupation. She was a member of its steering committee until 1957. In 1945, she became the first woman to receive the Prix Goncourt for Le premier accroc coûte deux cents francs (Denoёl, 1944).
