David M. O’Brien tient la chaire de science politique à l’Université de Virginie et est chercheur associé à la Cour suprême des États-Unis. Il a enseigné dans les universités d’Oxford, de Bologne ainsi qu’au Japon. Il a également été professeur invité à la Russell Sage Foundation de New York et à l’Institut d’études politiques de Lyon. Ses nombreuses publications incluent : Storm Center : The Supreme Court in American Politics (Norton, 2011) ; Constitutional Law and Politics (Norton, 2011) ; Supreme Court Watch (Norton, publication annuelle) ; Animal Sacrifice & Religious Freedom : The Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye V. City of Hialeah (University of Kansas Press, 2004) ; To Dream of Dreams : Religious Freedom and Constitutional Politics in Postwar Japan (University of Hawaii Press, 1996). Il a également dirigé de nombreux ouvrages dont Judges on Judging (C. Q. Press, 2008), et est co-auteur de Government by the People (Prentice Hall, 2007) ; Courts and Judicial Policymaking (Prentice Hall, 2008) ; Judicial Independence : Critical Perspectives from Around the World (University of Virginia Press, 2001).
