Between research and practice, this article explores the position and the role of designers with regard to algorithms. In working for a tourism information network, we first analyze the algorithmic Web Giants approach to further compare it with the user-centered approach followed by the tourism ecosystem. The paradigm shift we discovered led us to evolve the computer information system toward a hybrid network, mixing human and technical capabilities. Built from a new method of organizing information based on the concept of “Information Seeds” and “Transformations Schemas,” it offers new possibilities in interaction design. We present the broad lines of our work, share the early feedback, as well as the new opportunities.
