The imaginary correspondence presented here to the reader bears on the “dark side” of sympathy. The one which appears when the drive to do good (or benevolence) becomes stronger than the desire to rescue the deprived. At its utmost advance, sympathy mixes up with sacrifice and equates to the contempt of the other.
