Unravelling the complex processes and contradictions of globalisation requires to develop a theory of multiculturalism and inter-culturalism that may be suitable for a global society where the boundaries of national, regional and local cultures are constantly overcome by the new information and communication technologies. We are facing a revolution that has not only extraordinary techno-economic effects, but also anthropological ones in affecting daily life. My thesis is that the paradigm of gift may help us develop a new concept of culture — with all its philosophical and political implications — within the research of recognition by peoples, nations and communities.
