The advanced air school (Centre d’enseignement supérieur aérien—CESA) was founded in 1945. It aimed to encourage strategic thinking on air matters and give it weight in debates on joint issues. Today, the CESA (since 2006 the Centre for strategic aerospace studies— Centre des études stratégiques aérospatiales) continues to adapt its training programmes to produce chiefs that are capable of thinking and acting in the third dimension, and to prepare the Air Force for future wars.
