Unlike historical studies focused on the main decision makers, this paper seeks to use the development of technical education in France to demonstrate the role of users in technical schools. More precisely, the role of alumni associations at the beginning of the twentieth century is discussed; these became more important in the 1920s and 1930s because of the need to adapt technical education to local needs. Although they were places of sociability, these associations were also groups of sometimes powerful interests.
