Digitalization brings about a form of alchemy, analyzed here in five theses : 1) As the original vanishes and the digital copy becomes original, the work finds its value by creating a context. 2) Since the authorial position is shared with the audience, the work is judged in terms of relation. 3) As it becomes impossible to measure the truth of a work, its value rests ion its justness. 4) The work no longer receives its value from the museum or the gallery, but from the time-spaces it manages to construct. 5) The forms of art born out of digital and bio-technologies are in-vivo labs where different types of value can emerge than market values.
