Migrations mostly take place between countries from the South, where 80 % of asylum seekers are currently located. Only 4 % of the Brazilian population are foreigners, coming from Colombia and Congo, after earlier waves from Angola, who have settled in the poorest neighborhood in Rio. In spite of their poverty, these foreigners often play a more active political role in their new multitude than in their home country.
