This paper analyzes how the UN system neutralizes social anti-establishment movements by making them “participate” in its global “good governance” project. It uses the example of the feminist movement in Latin America and the Caribbean. By studying the “population policies” of international institutions and the question of micro-credit schemes for women, we see how the UN presented itself as an “ally” to women and managed to recruit a part of the feminist movement into its own project, even though it was carrying out policies that were absolutely disastrous for women, and in particular for the poor women of the Southern Hemisphere.
