‪This paper looks at two forms of citizen participation: the Bonnets Rouges’ grievances notebooks (2013-2014), and the ‘citizen and free expression notebooks’ of the Great National Debate (2018-2019). Drawing on the principles of interaction linguistics, enunciation and pragmatics, we propose a comparative study of the forms and functions of address in these two political corpora produced in absentia.‪
