English

The study examines appellations of contrast in Marat’s L’Ami du people (The Friend of the People). Indeed, the prevalence of lexical items such as enemies of the revolution, the fatherland, and freedom, reveals a cleavage based on the political choice of freedom. It is through appellations of the other, in particular as counter-revolutionary, that the categorization of identity takes shape.
