The Cultural Knot of the Directory for Catechesis

In this article, the author examines how the new Directory measures up to the current cultural challenge. According to him, what he calls the “cultural knot” is the main reason for the publication of this text, which he also places in the ecclesial context. Reading mainly the first chapter of the Directory, he makes the hypothesis that evangelisation and catechesis should be more radically referred to Revelation. Revelation, evangelisation, culture and transmission are the keywords of this analysis. Noting that the conception of evangelisation fluctuates between unilateral orientation and openness, the author calls for catechesis and evangelisation to be thought of from the ground of our common humanity, with the primacy always remaining to Revelation.
