Whether they be vivid images of a soldier’s life, his daily experience, the suffering of the rearguard, reminders of dreadful battles or denunciations of the carnage, songs from the Great War are vitally important as they are key accounts that help us to better understand the conflict. Thus, it is important that we pay them their due attention in this centenary year.
