The article focuses on a debate that has concerned the SFG for nearly two decades: Are we “gestalt therapists” or are we therapists practicing “Gestalt” , and in the later case, are we also coaches and (while we’re at it) why not other Gestalt professions? The author shows how and why the authors of the founding book, “Gestalt Therapy” wanted to claim “gestaltism” and declare themselves Gestaltists. The author then analyzes sections of the report of a working group commissioned by the SGFG to study this issue and shows how this report disqualifies, without any basis, the terms gestalt and gestaltist.
