Focused on an ethno-clinical consultation with a West African family, this article highlights the relevance of studying these sessions, in their meeting format, through the prism of an ethnography of politics from below. After showing that the performances given in these meetings lead to a construction of an omnipresent cultural “origin” that rapidly and pervasively frames the interaction, the article reveals the articulation of several felicitous conditions that may explain the session’s performativity.
