English

The detective novel could be considered the genre dedicated to death. It uses death as the unknown in an equation that the investigators will try to solve throughout the story. It is often brutal and criminal. The corpse appears in the very first pages, setting a story in motion that delves into the victim’s past and relationships to move the plot forward. What role do human remains play in the detective novel? How do they change the structure of a narrative? How does the author approach the psychological construction of characters confronted with particularly macabre discoveries? How do they imagine the profile of a victim who has neither identity nor face?
