Biblical tradition can help us think about the question of education. It tells us of the paradox of an education in freedom: it does not come from a method. The way Jesus acts is significant in that the authority of his word is not self-referential. In his wake, the Church experienced the tension between a law coming from the outside and the desire arising from a person’s heart.
