Freud’s letters to Fliess, attesting to the transference relationship between Freud and his friend, have played a major role in the birth of psychoanalysis, and as such, have become the letters of destiny of the psychoanalysts of today. Assigning to Fliess, through transference, the care of exact sciences and medicine, Freud was able to give affect its full place. This gave a certain style to his work, allowed him to continue research into the unconscious and the psychical functioning, and lay the foundations of psychoanalysis. In this way Freud was able to construct, what he called his « Drekkologie » and his « Traumbuch ». He also discovered that « self-analy-sis » is impossible.
