English

Children’s homes are institutions under the social and medico-social sectors for children put in care by the Child Welfare Agency or by court order. While the term « home » is present in the name of these institutions their particularity is of being institutional and non-family residential places. The polysemy of the term « home » is used here by the educational teams to erase the institutional aspect of the establishment or, on the contrary, accentuate it. The role of the children’s home in the affective appropriation of the place by the young persons is hence thought of complementarily with other places, of which the family home is one. The placement situation thus prompts us to think of joint appropriation of several « homes » by the young persons.
