This paper presents the findings of a research project examining how new teachers interpret the structural changes now being experienced by high school in Argentina. From the analysis of a series of teacher narratives, the different meanings these teachers give to education are explored in relation to the future they imagine for their students. These narratives are crucial because they emphasize the rupture in the discourse on equality and raise the issue of the place of a high school education in Argentinean society, its potentialities, and its limitations in building a better future for the next generations.
