This article contains the edition of a letter written by Jean Lacurne (ca. 1570–1631) to Claudius Salmasius (1588–1653) on March 17, 1616. This letter, besides being an example of the elegant Latin prose of its author, concerns the reception of the famous translation of Plutarch by Jacques Amyot. In it Lacurne eloquently defends Amyot’s rendering of Plutarch against the quite severe criticism of Bachet de Méziriac. The text of the letter is accompanied by an introduction as well as a commentary, in which all Greek words have been translated and various allusions to antiquity or to coeval scholars that could render certain passages of the text obscure have been explained.
