Germany is the main destination for labour migration flows across the European Union. Even if official statistics struggle to keep track of the movements of temporary and seasonal workers, their importance to the German economy is inescapable. In order to reconstruct the working conditions of these workers, the article shines a light on the relationship between the system of regulatory exemptions governing their employment and the practices of overexploitation by businesses.
