This paper examines the influence of young people's paths in life on their representations and expectations regarding welfare systems, and the consequences of these representations on their use of these systems as well as on the representations and attitudes of social workers towards them. From biographical interviews with young adults in insecure social and economic situations, the paper presents their relation to welfare systems, identifying three figures of at-risk young people shaped by the nature of their family relationships.
