English

The notion of field has been implicitly formalized since Pierre Bourdieu developed a genuine relational approach of the social space from the 1960s onward. It led him to promote a spatialized conception of social reality, which flourished through his use of Geometric Data Analysis (GDA) in the empirical study of fields. GDA makes it possible to develop a systematic research program for the study of fields, which goes from the descriptive level to an explanatory perspective.
