Professor of contemporary history (maritime and colonial) at the University of Le Havre-Normandie. He is attached to the CNRS UMR 6266 IDEES-Le Havre and is a corresponding member of the Académie des Sciences d'Outre-Mer. He has written several books, including Pennequin, "le sorcier de la pacification" - 1849-1916, 350 p.
