Shareholder engagement is a growing socially responsible investment strategy. It consists of shareholders asking companies in which they hold a portion of the share capital to improve their environmental, social, and governance practices. Based on a panel of semi-structured interviews with stakeholders in the ecosystem of companies listed on the French stock market, this article highlights the motivations behind and the obstacles to this strategy.
