The Sustainable development goals and the political commitments to low-carbon economies set out in the Paris Agreement are forcing all countries to adopt a sustainable development agenda. This imperative is all the more visible in island economies, since they are the first to suffer the effects of climate and ecological destabilization. This raises the question of whether to maintain a prosperous economic development model under such conditions, or to build a sustainable development model, if such a model exists. We propose to answer these questions using a macroeconometric projection model applied to New Caledonia. The aim of such a tool is to facilitate an ambitious public policy dialogue centered on different scenarios.
