What is just is fair, correct. Any cooperative experience implies a permanent debate about the just distribution of cooperative surplus balancing the individual and the collective. But how can we cooperate justly when cooperation includes a third aspect – the business – a poorly defined legal entity that however forms one of the two components of a business and employment cooperative ? By studying how Coopaname, a workers’ cooperative created from the business and employment cooperative movement, deals with the issue of accounting profits, the authors illustrate how the debate about management choices in a complex cooperative game leads to an original understanding of the relationship with ownership. The constant negotiation between contradictory management aims thus seems to form the foundation of the cooperative commons.
