By describing the stages of psychotherapy with Sandrine, a young adolescent girl whose life has been marked by numerous separations, clinical work with anger, behavioral problems and bulimia will be examined through her progressive ability to use mentalisation. Thinking about her history and tolerating the transferential relationship with her therapist are two guidelines by which to imagine the back-and-forth movement toward Melanie Klein’s depressive position. The depressive position is set into relation with the notion of discomfort, understood by the author as a psychic position « outside of » depression, an « extero-psychic » place.
