This article is part of todayâ??s debates on the history of colonization and the currents to the idea of repentance. The author puts forward some deeply anchored dynamics which changed drastically African societies since the colonization, considered as a major historical bifurcation : Modernity and the State, urban revolution. But the system an international capitalism creates the continuity of an economic model inherited from colonization. The demographic boom in postcolonial Africa is considered as a crucial factor : without a regulation of births, it is very unlikely that the continent will be able to see a durable development and end the tearing conflicts. The duty of memory should not cover up the challenges of the future.
