This paper aims to better understand the so-called dropouts at university level, by providing some qualitative evidence. We present the results of an exploratory qualitative study conducted in 2009-2010 jointly by the University of Provence and the Crous of Aix-Marseille (the Regional student’s welfare office). The study focused on the secondary school leavers newly enrolled in the University, in the academic sector of Arts, Literature, Languages and Human Sciences (ALLSH). The four waves of the survey conducted on the basis of semi-structured interviews allowed in defining several paths of action within university and beyond.
