The authors present a new tool developed for scoring in the Children’s Apperception Test (CAT). The tool was created based on 500 CAT stories (by boys and girls split into three age groups of 3-4, 4-6, and 6-12). It offers a new framework for describing CAT responses, and is the first part of a largescale research program aimed at empirically validating the CAT’s projective method. The framework has three descriptive axes, made up of 16 scoring categories comprising 83 items in total, used for the scoring of responses to the ten CAT cards.
