UCLG Africa, a pan-African organisation representing local and regional authorities, works for the implementation of local government initiatives, in an institutional context favourable to decentralisation policies. UCLG Africa has initiated a bottom-up process aimed at improving the public provision of urban services and city management, paying particular attention to gender issues and the transition towards a sustainable development model. Jean-Pierre Elong Mbassi, Secretary General of UCLG Africa, shares his views on African urban growth and the initiatives of the network he leads.
