Valérie Erlich is a sociologist, lecturer at the Université Côte d'Azur and researcher at the Unité de recherche Migrations et Société (URMIS) (Université Côte d'Azur, Université Paris Cité, CNRS, IRD). She is attached to the Laboratoire interdisciplinaire de recherche sur l'enseignement supérieur (LIRES) at the Université de Montréal.
