Professor of History and Director of the French Studies Institute at NYU, he is the author of, among other works, La Statue de la Liberté: Histoire d’une icône franco-américaine (Armand Colin, 2012), and Les Héros de l’Empire: Brazza, Marchand, Lyautey, Gordon, and Stanley in the Conquest of Africa (Perrin, 2012).
