À la lumière de l’Écriture et des derniers pontificats, l’A. envisage le renouveau du ministère primatial en étudiant la figure contrastée de saint Pierre. Au fondement de la primauté, il y a la grâce de la miséricorde : appelé, établi et envoyé par miséricorde, Pierre ne peut être protos qu’à la manière du Christ, en entrant dans le mystère du Serviteur. Le lavement des pieds constitue à cet égard le centre de gravité d’une réflexion sur la primauté, et Jn 21 son aboutissement. Une réforme de la papauté devra souligner que le ministère pétrinien est, dans la miséricorde, l’agapè jusqu’à l’extrême.

At the light of the Scripture and of the recent pontificates, the author reflects on the renewal of primatial ministry in pondering upon the features of St. Peter. At the foundation of the primacy, there is the grace of mercy: called, established and sent by mercy, Peter can be “protos” only in the manner of Christ, by entering into the mystery of the Servant. The washing of the feet constitues in this view the center of gravity of a reflexion on the primacy, with John 21 as its achievment. The reform of the papacy will have to emphasise that the petrine ministry is “agape” brought to its extreme.
