Editing the 160 letters written by Paul de Rousiers to Robert Pinot from 1891 to 1895 makes it possible to highlight most of the major events involving the social sciences accounted for by these letters: The success encountered by La vie américaine, Pinot’s entry into the Musée social, and especially the two surveys conducted by de Rousiers in England. These letters represent a veritable field diary of the social sciences in the making in the late nineteenth century in France.
