The city of Kitanaura, known to have been included in the territory of Termessos in Pisidia not later than the 1st cent. ad, is located in a mountainous area on the border of Lycia. It is characterized by the presence of a large necropolis where the remains of a herôon are among the best preserved in southern Asia Minor. The engraved inscription as well as the sculptured decoration refer to a Pisidian, Trokondas, son of Trokondas, grand-son of Atteous. The purpose of this article is to determine when the monument was built, to understand the meaning of the images and to clarify the role of Trokondas in Kitanaura, in particular in the territory of Termessos.
